Step 2
Next you'll want to do a smooth line all the way round the outline. Remember, the underside of the jaw is pretty much straight across, not angled up like the bottom of the jawbone. The neck is very small for female characters, and comes down from the middle of the head -- that is, the middle of the neck should be more or less directly underneath the cross point of the 'X'.

The ear goes just behind the back of the jaw, and takes up about the middle third of the height of the head. There are many different ways to draw eyes from the side, but the pupils shouldn't be too poppy -- they're often flat or even slightly concave. Notice the eyelid above the top lash. The mouth, if it's closed, should be just a very small line a little below the nose. If the mouth is open, it is usually drawn on the side of the face, behind the curving line at the front. The inside of the mouth is represented as a tongue line angling down. I'm sure you've noticed the way mouths are drawn in side view, but it's worth studying. It has nothing to do with correct anatomy, of course, but it looks cool, and it's easy to draw.

Something I've noticed about hair in side view: it's always parted so that it falls back behind the profile on the near side, and ahead of the profile on the far side. What this means is you can see the side of the face, and the profile is framed against the hair. Again a neat little convention that makes life a little easier.
